Post what you want. Offer what you have.

What could you ask for?

Need a babysitter? Tax help? Business advice? AI coaching or training? A new set of golf clubs? A makeover? Help with your next move? Meal prep? Just ask — one of your neighbors most likely has what you need.

What could you offer?

Babysitting in return? Tutoring? Lawnmowing? Cooking classes, art classes? Use of your car? Legal or financial advice? An empathetic ear to help someone struggling with loneliness?

Let's see what the neighborhood can cook up together.

How it works

Three steps. Zero dollars.

We're a matchmaker and a reputation board — not a bank, not a marketplace, not a middleman. Everything past the introduction is between you and your neighbor.

STEP ONE

Post what you offer & what you need

"I offer 3 hours of yard work. I need help with a resume." Every member lists both — givers and takers are the same people here.

STEP TWO

Match with a neighbor

Browse by neighborhood and skill, or let us surface trades where your offer meets someone's need. Message them right on the board.

STEP THREE

Make your own deal, then rate each other

You two agree on the when, where, and how — offline, on your terms. Afterward, you rate each other. Great neighbors rise to the top.

The handshake rule: HoursForHours never handles money, never tracks your hours, and never takes a cut of your trade. You find each other here — the deal itself belongs to you.

The manifesto

An hour is an hour.

We believe an hour of your life is worth an hour of anyone else's. No exceptions, no exchange rate.
We believe everyone is rich in something. A skill, a strong back, a patient ear, a Tuesday afternoon.
We believe the best help doesn't come from an app with a surge price. It comes from three streets over.
We believe a handshake between neighbors beats a checkout page between strangers.
And we believe your reputation — showing up, doing good work, keeping your word — is the only currency that matters here.

Do my nails and I'll do your taxes. Watch my kids and I'll fix your fence. That's the whole idea. — HoursForHours, San Diego

Accountability

Your word is your net worth.

After every trade, both neighbors rate each other — stars for the work, tags for the character. Ratings are public, permanent, and impossible to buy. Flake on someone, and everyone knows. Show up early with donuts, and everyone knows that too.

Questions

The fine print, in plain English.

HoursForHours is an introduction service — think of it as a bulletin board with reputations attached. We never handle money, hold funds, or track hours, and we take no cut. What you and a neighbor agree to do for each other is between the two of you, exactly like it would be if you'd met at a block party. We're not tax advisors, so for your own situation check with a professional — but our role is simply making the introduction.

Nope. You might watch Maria's kids this week and get your bike fixed by Sam next month. The whole community runs on the same simple promise: an hour given is an hour earned. You give when you can and receive when you need to.

Yes — that's the heart of it. We believe an hour of your life is worth an hour of anyone else's. It's a different way of valuing people, and it's exactly what makes the community feel human instead of transactional. If you need the market economy, it'll always be there. This is something else. That said, you can make whatever deal feels fair to both of you. We never get in the middle of what works for you.

Every member builds a public reputation: star ratings and honest character tags from people they've actually traded with. New members start fresh, established ones carry their track record with them. You choose who to trade with, and you always meet and agree on details before anything happens. If you're meeting someone you don't know, please be smart and take normal precautions — meet in a public place, and try small trades until your trust in each other builds.

Joining is free. Down the road we'll likely add a small annual membership to cover identity verification and keep the community safe and spam-free. We'll always be clear about any price before you're asked to pay, and no money ever changes hands for the trades themselves. We're also considering being ad-supported. Let us know which you'd prefer: a few dollars a year for an ad-free site, or totally free and ad-supported.

Trades need proximity and trust, so we started in one city and are doing it well before we grow. HoursForHours is live across San Diego now. Tell your neighbors: the more people trading in your part of town, the better it works for everyone.

We're free and trying to keep costs low, so we really need your help spreading the word. If you have a blog, a social media following, a podcast — or you own a TV station — please help us get the word out so more neighbors can help neighbors and we can knit our social fabric back together. As jobs get harder to find and inflation keeps rising, this is one small way to raise our standard of living while lowering costs. Please help!
